Greyhound Safety Net |
Greyhound Safety Net Inc is a non-profit organisation, incorporated with Consumer Affairs Victoria, and was founded by a group of dedicated people who love Greyhounds and were moved to give to these beautiful companion animals a life after racing.
We endeavour to provide a Safety Net for Greyhounds who may not otherwise be saved.
Our Mission is to find homes for as many of these beautiful creatures as we can.
Greyhounds only race until they are around four years old, out of a normal life expectancy of 12+ years. Most of them have nowhere to go after racing. Some Greyhounds, once finished racing, are put onto the waiting lists for the Greyhound Adoption Programs.
The waiting lists can at times be quite long which discourages some trainers who have to 'make room' for new racers. So alternative homes need to be found for these dogs. Some Greyhounds just don't make the grade, and are "up for re homing"as young as 12 months.
Just as with any breed of dog, Greyhounds are dumped at shelters and are often overlooked as suitable pets.
We raise funds through corporate sponsorships, market stalls, garage sales and the sale of craftgoods that are generously donated to us. The funds help cover veterinary costs, microchipping and the foster care of the dogs in our care in a home environment until a permanent home is found.
Greyhound Safety Net Inc. encourages and promotes Greyhound welfare wherever Greyhounds need a helping hand.
