Handweavers & Spinners Guild of Victoria Inc |
The main purpose of the Guild is to bring together those who practise, or wish to practise, handweaving, spinning and allied crafts.
It seeks to help and encourage them to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills in these crafts through discussion, demonstration, exhibition, teaching and the provision of resource materials.
The very first Guild meeting was held in the Public Library Theatre (Swanston St) 21st April 1954.
Exhibitions and demonstrations have always been part of the Guild, providing members with an outlet for their craft and encouraging new people to join. Indeed, the Guild began with Mrs. Heughan's demonstration at Myer's city store in 1952.
