Congratulations to GEELONG and MELBOURNE STORM for winning their respective grand finals over the weekend.

GEELONG annihilated Port Adelaide in a powerful display of Australian Rules Football, winning the AFL Grand Final at the M.C.G.

MELBOURNE STORM won their second National Rugby League premiership by beating the Manly Sea Eagles 34-8 at Olympic Stadium in Sydney.

The success of Geelong and Melbourne Storm along with Melbourne Victory (soccer) championship, Melbourne again earns the title as the home of SPORT in Australia.

INTERESTING FACTS

Geelong's win broke a 44 year title drought having not won a premership since 1963. The Cats had lost their previous five grand finals, including four in a heartbreaking seven-year period from 1989-95.

Geelong won by a record 119 points 24.19 (163) to 6.4 (44) in front of a crowd of 97,302, easily dwarfing Hawthorn's 96-point win over Melbourne in 1998.

A HUGE 2.9 million people tuned in to watch the Cats demolish Port Adelaide on Saturday making the AFL Grand Final the most-watched TV program for the year.

The TV commentary of the rugby was so biased towards the Manly, there was over 50 reminders of the Storm losing the previous year. They disregarded the fact Melbourne lost just three games all year and won 13 of its past 14, including seven in a row before last night's game.
