Violet Town Museum & Art Gallery
The Ian Errey Museum shares local Violet Town history, with specific exhibitions targeting different parts of the communities past. Changing regularly the exhibitions aim to engage and connect with the veiwer, create understanding and conversation.
backARTS is located behind the museum and provides the opportunity for artists to rent the space to exhibit and sell there work. Rented for $150 per month and a commission of 20% is charged.
Violet Town Gallery Museum Inc manages each facility and welcomes the input of community members as volunteerd and in designing exhibitions and sharing collections.
This exciting project has rejuvenated the main street and has contributed to bring cultural and economic benefits to our town.
Thank you to all the local residents who have contributed by volunteering their labour, skills and knowledge to the project.
The Ian Errey Museum is open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm (check whether current Covid restrictions have caused changes to these times)
The Museum is on a site that was once a blacksmith, hardware supplies and undertakers business in the 1890s. The old building has now been restored by volunteers.
The museum aims to preserve the stories of Violet Town's interesting and resilient community.
Exhibitions focus on particular themes or significant past events in the history of the town and district. These are taken down or reduced two or three times a year to make way for new exhibitions.

Previous Exhibitions
No Toxic Dump The 2002-2004 community campaign to say no to the Victorian Government's siting of a TOXIC WASTE DUMP on Baddaginnie/Violet Town farmland.
Southern Aurora Tragedy 7th February 2019 marked the 50th anniversary of the terrible crash at Violet Town between the Southern Aurora and a goods train that claimed 9 lives and injured countless others. The exhibition highlights the human stories of those affected, including the rescue workers from the local community who responded and the difficulties they faced in an era half a century ago.
Cowslip Street - Then and Now A photographic exhibition documenting the changes to the streetscape of what is now Violet Town's main street over the last century.
The backART Gallery
Located behind the Ian Errey Museum, the backART Gallery is open during Museum and cafe opening hours with free entry.
Exhibitions featuring local artists' work, are regularly held in the space - see What's On for details.
