Magazine Way Maribyrnong
Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung land

Jack's Magazine is open on the first Sunday of each month for guided tours.

Explore Jack's Magazine - the intriguing former explosives storage facility by the banks of the Maribyrnong River. Opened in 1878, Jack's Magazine has been locked up and unused since the 1990s. Jack's Magazine is now open for regular guided walking tours.

Get a glimpse behind Jack's Magazine's imposing bluestone walls and explore its buildings, tunnels, tramways and giant earth mounds on foot. Learn about its connections to Victoria's gold mining, world wars and the local area's industrial past. This is the perfect day out for those intrigued by Melbourne's hidden places.

Please note this is a walking tour and we cover quite a lot of ground across this large site - a basic level of fitness is required. Please contact us directly if you have particular queries about accessibility.

Jack's Magazine is a heritage place on Crown Land managed by Working Heritage.

2023 - Please note, works are currently occurring to the Jack's Magazine forecourt. To access the building from the Jack's Magazine Carpark, please follow the bluestone wall north and turn left until you reach the entrance gate. A staff member will be available in the carpark to provide directions.
