Jim's Greek Tavern |
Greek favourites, like souvlaki and meze, in a lively, long-running brick taverna with an open fire.
A unique space with no actual menu, at Jim's Greek Tavern your waiter will craft your order for you based on your taste, and your pocket. There are many unique meat dishes, seafood and house-made dips from which to choose.
Review
With the third largest Greek population after Athens and Thessaloniki, it's no surprise that Melbournians harbour an enduring love of Greek food and culture. While chefs like George Calombaris toy with the concept of Greek fare, the long-standing Jim's Greek Tavern in Collingwood stays true to tradition, serving up classic dishes with panache.
There is a focus on simplicity at Jim's and this philosophy is evident from the taverna-inspired white-washed walls to the food. You won't be offered a menu here, instead, Greek-Australian waiters guide guests through options that include pan-fried Saganaki, a selection of homemade dips, and a veritable smorgasbord of meats and seafood. The lamb is slow-cooked, salty and the smoky seafood will have you elbowing fellow diners out of the way for more.
What's more, it's BYO and your helpful waiter is sure to offer his opinion on the type of beer you're drinking.

Me and my 2 kids had 2 souvlakia, 2 saganakis which were stuck to the plate.. 1 gyro plate and a salad, $118... biggest rip off, and no menus

Noisy, aggressive waiters and NO MENU to order off? Sorry, not my idea of dining in 2019. Couldn't wait to get out of there
