City Square Melbourne |
CLOSED
Melbourne's City Square is currently closed to the public for construction of the new Metro Tunnel and CBD South Station..
Closed: 2017 - 2025
City Square is set to return in 2025!
It's been seven years since the square closed so we could build Town Hall Station underneath.
The revamped square will feature welcoming spaces for events, retail and hospitality, along with new landscaping and artworks.
At the centre will be a permanent Smoking Ceremony dish that was developed with Wurundjeri Elders, while a digital interactive version of the much-loved Mockridge Fountain will delight both community and passengers as they enter or exit the station.
City Square
Located opposite Melbourne Town Hall it is bordered by Swanston, Collins, Flinders Lane and Westin Hotel, used for festivals and events.
City Square has been the heart and meeting place of Melburnian's for many years.
Once home to the Yellow Peril sculpture (The Vault) by Ron Robertson-Swann, City Square was the city's central piazza.
Look for the statue of Larry La Trobe the dog and a monument to explorers Burke and Wills.
