Melbourne Girls College

Melbourne Girls' College was established in January 1994 with an enrolment of approximately 300 students.

The site on which the College is housed was initially that of the Richmond Secondary College, which itself was established around 1970, and ceased to exist in 1992.

Although the College was established as an entirely new entity with its own unique identity and mission, many of the founding staff and initial intake of students came from three other schools which had ceased to exist. These were:

Richmond Girls' High School
Malvern Girls' High School
Richmond High School

Melbourne Girls' College is superbly located on the banks of the Yarra River in Yarra Boulevard, Richmond, 5 kilometres east of the Melbourne CBD. It is easily accessed by train, tram and bus services. It boasts spacious grounds in a delightful setting, combined with excellent facilities which are being improved and upgraded on an ongoing basis. The main 3-story building includes a range of specialist classrooms. There is also a large hall and attached canteen, ovals, tennis and basketball courts all set in beautiful grounds with natural bird life.

The College also has land on the Yarra River for a boatshed and development of further sport and recreation facilities which utilise the Yarra River are being explored with business, relevant authorities and community organisations.

Melbourne Girls' College is a model girls' school for the 21st century aiming for exemplary standards of achievement and conduct, and catering for girls from years seven to twelve.

The curriculum places special emphasis on science and technology. The College aims to be at the leading edge of technological innovation in teaching and learning, providing innovative and challenging learning experiences.
The College provides opportunities for girls to prepare for leadership roles which emphasise the development of leadership in a rapidly changing society, characterised by high technology and scientific advancement.

International Focus. Melbourne Girls' College is committed to becoming a world-class girls' college. Currently, 1140 girls from 192 Melbourne postcodes along with 40 girls from overseas countries make up the College community. 50 countries of birth are represented within the total college population.
