Melbourne is great for sport..

The reason Australian's love events in Melbourne is accessibility. Stay at any CBD hotel and walk to every sporting stadium, theatre, entertainment, dining and shopping precincts.

Here's a couple of nice walks, catch a tram or check out the City of Melbourne maps and guides below.

Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG nee 'G')
- Park walk through Birrarung Marr along the Yarra River
- Park walk through the Treasury, Fitzroy and Yarra Parks, or tram on Flinders Street heading east.

To help visitors gain their bearings and embark on a journey of discovery, the City of Melbourne operates a range of imaginative programs and a state-of-the-art visitor information centre at Federation Square.

A range of Melbourne maps has been produced to help both locals and visitors navigate the city with ease.

Self-guided walks
Whether you're a local or a visitor, you can see the city with fresh eyes thanks to a range of free self-guided walks brochures.

The brochures include maps and are available from the Melbourne Visitor Centre. The Melbourne Visitor Centre has been moved during the building of Melbourne's Metro Tunnel to Melbourne Town Hall.

One of the brochures is called Melbourne Walks and contains six self-guided walking tours, all starting from Federation Square.

The six walks in the Mellbourne Walks brochure are:

1. Arcades and Lanes (lanes, little streets and arcades);
2. The Cosmopolitan (the city centre);
3. On the Waterfront (both sides of the Yarra River);
4. Secret Gardens (parks and gardens south of the river);
5. A Walk in the Park (Fitzroy and Treasury gardens); and
6. Sports and Entertainment (up the river to the sports precinct).
