Melbourne Linux Users Group

Melbourne Linux Users Group is a community focused group of Linux enthusiasts who want to help each other use and learn about the Linux operating system.

The Linux Kernel is developed by people arround the world. Through open colaboration with independant programmers and corporations, the Linux kernel has evolved to what it is today. Many of the tools used on Linux systems (and other Unixes) are developed through this same system of collaboration, known as Open Source. The major Open Source licensing scheme is the GNU General Public License Agreement - the GPL. The GPL ensures that anything developed Open Source will remain Open Source - even if the code is used in other programs.
