Melbourne Meccano Club

The Melbourne Meccano Club Inc. is a social club dedicated to the appreciation of all aspects of Meccano, both old and new.

The Club has a membership in excess of 95, with members in all States. Membership is open to everyone with an interest in Meccano.

The Melbourne Meccano Club celebrate every year with a display of models and memorabilia spanning the century of the Meccano name-and from even earlier.

Frank Hornby registered 'Meccano' as a trademark in September 1907, but first patented his invention in 1901 as 'Mechanics Made Easy'.

A hundred years on, and Meccano enthusiasts are making things he knew well (such as giant trucks and cranes) and things he could never have imagined (computer controlled models, Japanese movie monsters).

The most famous Meccano model of all, the giant block-setting crane featured on so many Meccano manuals and boxes and advertisements, will be on show.

So will a Meccano model of King Ghidorah, a 1960s Japanese movie monster who once fought Godzilla. The special Meccano set with the pieces to make King Ghidorah can only be bought in Japan.
