Melbourne Walking Festival |
We always get excited when we think we have found a new festival in Melbourne and delighted when we found Melbourne Walking Festival.
Before you read on, this Melbourne Walking Festival was held in Derby, United Kingdom. over the weekend of 25th and 26th June, 2011.
There will be seven walks on offer covering the attractive landscapes surrounding the historic market town of Melbourne. The walks range in length from 4km to 15km to suite all levels. On the Saturday there will be a Town Walk led by well-known local historian, Richard Heath.
All walks on Saturday start from Melbourne Leisure Centre and the Sunday walks start from various points in Melbourne, Stanton and the village of Ticknall.

Walk 1
Melbourne to Foremark and Ingleby, 15km, 11:00 am start, moderate, leader Barry Thomas.
Walk 2
Melbourne to Burney Lane, Breedon, Wilson, 10km, 2:00 pm start, moderate, leader Marie Kennedy.
Walk 3
Melbourne to Woodhouses area, 4km, 3:00 pm start, easy, leader Dave Calvert.
Walk 4
Walk around the historic town by local historian Richard Heath - 2:00 pm. About 2 hours.

Walk 5
Ticknall to Smisby return, 13.5 km, 11:00 am start from Ticknall Village Hall Car Park (free), moderate, leader Barry Thomas. There is also a bus service from Derby or Swadlincote to Ticknall (Arriva 61).
Walk 6
Melbourne to Ticknall and Calke Abbey, 10 km, 2:00 pm from Melbourne Leisure Centre, easy/moderate, leader Stuart Mansfield.
Walk 7
A walk in the Stanton by Bridge area, about 6/7 km, meet by the Turkey Oak in the middle of Stanton at 1:30 pm, leader Paul Sturges. The Arriva 61 bus stops here (we will wait for the Derby bus if you tell us you are using it when booking).
