Opening in 1965 as Sandown Racecourse, today Ladbrokes Park also enjoys a growing reputation as a first-class function and event centre.

The multi-faceted Ladbrokes Park showcases horsepower at its finest - with year round thoroughbred racing action combined with a wide range of high octane motor racing circuit events and driver training pursuits.

Managed by Melbourne Racing Club, Sandown is currently known as Ladbrokes Park.

Ladbrokes Park

Ladbrokes Park's annual thoroughbred racing program comprises 36 race days scheduled on a rotational basis on the venue's two acclaimed turf circuits - the Hillside and Lakeside tracks.

Racecourse: Lakeside and Hillside

Sandown is the only thoroughbred racecourse in Australia with two race tracks. In 2001 the club built a second track (Hillside) around the outside of the existing Lakeside track.

Featuring a dual horse racing circuit with the individual tracks known as Lakeside and Hillside. Sandown's premier horse race day is the Sandown Classic meeting, also featuring the Sandown Guineas, which concludes the Spring Racing Carnival in Melbourne.

The racing surface at Sandown is widely recognised by industry and punters alike as one of the best in Australia. With both tracks featuring wide turns and front straights, and a gradual rise from the 200m mark to the finishing post, every runner gets a chance.

Motor Circuit

Built in the early 60's, Sandown's Motor Circuit has long stood as the premium car racing circuit in Melbourne. The Motor Circuit is 3.1km in circumference, and features 13 turns.

Home to the Sandown 500 Endurance Race V8 Supercar event in mid-September each year, the motor circuit is one of the very few permanent circuits left anywhere in the world located right in the middle of a large metropolitan city.

Function Rooms

Sandown offers a wide range of different facilities, rooms and areas available for hire. Located on the ground level of the Grandstand, the Multi-Purpose Room is the perfect facility for your next conference or trade show event. Equipped with ceiling high double door for large vehicle entry, two main bars, capacity for over 1000 people.

Quarantine Station

Operated by Racing Victoria Ltd (RVL), the Sandown Quarantine station was originally built in 1997. Due to the increasing demand of International horses entered in the Spring Racing Carnival, an extra station was added in 2001.

Some of the world's finest thoroughbreds have passed through the Quarantine as part of internationally acclaimed Spring Racing Carnival. Names such of the past such as Vintage Crop and Vinnie Roe, and in 2006 the two Japanese horses Delta Blues (3rd in Caulfield Cup & winner of the Melbourne Cup) and Pop Rock (2nd in Melb Cup) are notable achievers who called Sandown their temporary home.

Getting There

DRIVING
Ladbrokes Park is located on Princes Hwy in Springvale, about 20kms south east of the Melbourne CBD. It will take you approximately 30 minutes to get there along the Monash Freeway.

Public parking
Free public parking is available at the Centre Car Park on race days, enter via overpass on Princes Hwy - turn left (if travelling from city) onto the access road.

Members' parking
Members' car parking is located in front of the Main Entrance and adjacent to the Birdcage Entrance. Members' car park passes are strictly non-transferable, and must be affixed to inside of windscreen whilst car remains in car park.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Train
Sandown Park railway station is located close to the racecourse entrance gates. Trains depart regularly from Flinders Street station on the Cranbourne and Dandenong/Pakenham lines. Check timetables for trains stopping at Sandown Park. The Cranbourne and Dandenong/Pakenham trains take approximately 40 minutes from Flinders Street to Sandown Park station.

Bus
Access to Ladbrokes Park by bus is available from Chadstone Shopping Centre. From platform bay 6, take bus route 800 towards Dandenong. Get off at stop Corrigan Rd/Princes Hwy, Springvale and the racecourse is directly opposite. Travel time is around 45 minutes.

TAXI
Patrons can be dropped off on Racecourse Drive, near the main gate on racedays. Upon exiting the racecourse, the taxi stand can be located out the front of the main gate on racedays.
