Newsletter | #244 | What's On this Week |
Welcome to this week's Melbourne events, exhibitions, sports and community guide for Tuesday to Monday, September 6 to 12.
This week... hot on the heels of the recent Melbourne Writers' Festival, the wordsmiths can continue to rejoice and wet their inkwells with the Overload Poetry Festival. Also catering to those of an artistic bent, there's Yarra Valley Open Studios Festival with a showcase of artists and their creative abodes, along with Mildura Palimpsest celebrating the work of local and international artists.
On the multicultural side of things, there's the Mooncake Festival with a free day of entertainment held at Queen Victoria Market, while Festival Indonesia makes its return with a weekend of attractions.
Combine them all with the ongoing Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, and what you may have is a moral tale involving my stubborn penchant for chain belts and a nephew who insists on grabbing them. The moral being that such a fashion statement runs the risk of inspiring an impromptu Mooncake Festival of one's own - which some might find rather poetic.

A Prob-Emblematic Dillema
Among the emblems of Victoria, two of them are sadly endangered. Having long been a part of Victoria's past, the two emblems which hold an uncertain future are the animal emblem, the Leadbeater's Possum, and the bird emblem, which is the Helmeted Honey-eater.
The remaining emblems that Victoria holds dear are the Pink Heath for the floral emblem, and the Weedy Seadragon, representing Victoria's marine fauna.
