Newsletter | #255 | What's On this Week |
Welcome to this week's Melbourne events, exhibitions, sports and community guide for Tuesday to Monday, November 22 to 28.
This week... there's many a Christmas event already doing the rounds with one of the big attractions held in Frankston with the Christmas Festival of Lights. And if you're already feeling the jitters at the idea of scouring for all those presents, fear not.. There are just as many non-Christmas festivals that happen to have markets joined to their celebratory hips, as is the fashion these days.
Two such festival that'll have some snazzy stalls are the Japan Culture Festival in Collingwood and the Paris to Provence French Festival, bringing a touch of ooh la la to South Yarra's Como House.
Speaking of ooh la la... There's the chance this week to learn more about brightness curves for undulators or flux curves for wigglers. You're forgiven if you thought I meant Sexpo. I'm actually referring to the Open Day of the Australian Synchrotron in Clayton.
For those unaware of what this actually is, just picture big kids playing loop-de-loops on a Hot Wheel's Track, but with high energy electrons instead of cars.

You've Got A Mephistopheles Or Two..
A ghost walks Melbourne's splendid Princess Theatre. Singer, Federici, died as he descended from the stage through the trap in March 1888 after playing Mephistopheles in the opera Faust
The night after, the cast claimed that two Mephistopheles stepped forward to take their bows. Federici's replacement, Ernest St Clair swore that every time he stepped forward to take his bow invisible hands pushed him backwards.
Since then there have been many sightings and it is regarded as good luck to have seen the ghost. It's said that the Princess leaves a seat for Federici in the balcony on opening nights.
