Newsletter | #278 | What's On this Week |
Welcome to this week's Melbourne events, exhibitions, sports and community guide for Tuesday to Monday, May 1 to 7, 2012.
This week... the word is the bird with two literary events flying high for avid bookworms out there. Firstly, there's the Williamstown Literary Festival with a great program of talks, reading, guest authors and more, while the rural town of Clunes gets a grand and cluttered makeover with the Booktown Festival converting many a venue into a weekend treasure trove fro readers.
Along with the ongoing Bright Autumn Festival, there's also a nifty buffet for foodies with events celebrating coffee, chestnuts and cider. Separate events, mind you. Those who attempt all three might be found at Clunes looking up home remedy books about belly aches.
That or severe gas. I'm not game enough to find out, and nor should you be unless you have a 'panic room' for loved ones.

Zone Two Was A Tram Route, Zone One Once Was Two
Given Melbourne's love of trams, one could be forgiven for thinking the first electric tram route would have originated out Melbourne's CBD but no.. it ran between Doncaster and Box Hill.
It was the first electric tram in Australia, and the southern hemisphere, to operate as a regular service and ran along a road we now know as "Tram Road".
