Built on a 25 hectare (60 acre) site linked with the richest alluvial goldrush in the world, Sovereign Hill faithfully depicts Ballarat's first ten years after the discovery of gold in 1851.

The Sovereign Quartz Mine (c 1880) extends this period to include some of the innovations of the mining industry in their search for gold. It's where Australia's history comes to life!

Situated in the historic city of Ballarat Sovereign Hill is located in Bradshaw St and can be easily accessed by car train and tour coaches operating daily from Melbourne. Sovereign Hill is a comfortable 90 minute drive from Melbourne along the Western highway (or only an hour from Melbourne Airport!)

Once in Ballarat just follow the brown and white tourist signs to Sovereign Hill.
