The Melbourne Design Guide
Alphabet Press sprang into life in 2007 as an attempt to fill the chasm that is design and architecture publishing in Australia.
The Sydney Design Guide (2007) and the Melbourne Design Guide (2009, first edition 2006) were a great success. Now, this very small list is set to grow in leaps and bounds. To overcome the challenges posed by a small local market and to capture international audiences, Alphabet Press is set to tackle these obstacles by embracing unusual modes of production, banking on collaborative projects and alternative forms of publishing. After initially setting up the publisher with Ewan McEoin (who was co-editor on the first edition for the Melbourne Design Guide and its Sydney sister), Viviane Stappmanns is the sole director of Alphabet Press. Aside from degrees in design and journalism, she brings a lot of experience in writing and publishing to the job, and of course tons of passion for the printed word.
