Napier Crew | Youth Street Art Studio, Fitzroy

With studios situated in Napier Street, Fitzroy, The Napier Crew run regular workshops and provide a high standard of art tuition, focusing on street art.

The very nature of producing graffiti in a safe studio space at the Napier teaches younger artists to view it as an art practice in its own right. The crew has completed many outstanding public art projects and positively contributed to the local community.

We complete legal productions; murals that give back to the community on many levels. We work with local groups to produce murals relevant to their institutional goals and attitudes. Covering suburban walls with carefully considered street art deters hasty illegal graffiti from appearing on site. Please see the Projects section of our website for more details.

Our collaborative approach offers opportunities and support for participants aged 13 - 25 years, with older artists and guest artists mentoring and assisting younger artists. There is a positive, chilled vibe at the Napier, where individual diversity and artistic development is encouraged. Our art projects have brought participants and project staff in contact with diverse sections of the community, including people concerned about graffiti and its connotations. Through this exchange, both graffiti artists and residents have gained a greater understanding of one another, helping to change negative perceptions of the art form and build understanding about the value and significance of street art for some people.

Many of our members have become independent artists in their own right, studying Fine Art and Graphic Design at tertiary level and finding work within the arts industries. The talent, creativity and collaborative skills of members are evident in the work produced together.
