It dawned on us as Melbourne's Luna Park celebrating its 100th birthday in 2012, just how many amusement parks have come and gone.
As far back as the 1800's, there have been amusements in Melbourne and country Victoria that have thrilled us, but sadly only for a short period of time. Some are still around like the fabulous Moomba (1951), Royal Melbourne Show (1848) and Luna Park (1912), but sadly many are gone..

Doncaster Tower was a 285 foot high tower in the late 1800's.
Cremorne Gardens amusement park on the banks of the Yarra River in 1850's.
Dinosaur World (World of Dinosaurs) theme park in Creswick from 1982 to 2002.
Hi-Lite Park amusement park in Geelong from 1956 to 1985.
Leisureland Fair was a amusement park in Langwarrin from 1984 to 1992.

The Australian Wildlife Park first opened it's doors on the 26th December 1990 and was part of Wonderland Sydney (formerly Australia's Wonderland). It eventually closed it's doors on 25th April 2004. Source
