Ready Set: Wear For Success |
Ready Set (managed by Wear for Success) was established as Wear for Success in 2011 by a group of dedicated individuals, many of who are still involved.
They recognised that helping people experiencing economic hardship through unemployment prepare for job interviews can significantly improve their psychological, physical and financial well - being, they knew that increased confidence could ultimately enable greater participation in life and an increased sense of social inclusion.
Fitting out a small warehouse in South Melbourne, they collected donations and sought out oversupply from retailers and began styling and providing clothing to jobseekers in need from across Melbourne.
The goal was to provide a service to all genders, providing individuals who did not own and could not afford suitable clothing to wear to job interviews with the items they needed. Having the "tools" to look the part not only impacted the individual's confidence, but also affected employers' perceptions of the potential employees they were interviewing.
In our first year, 175 jobseekers walked through our doors. In 2019, that number grew to over 1600 jobseekers, many of whom received individualised coaching through our Career Support Program as well as clothing.
In 2018 we also began a mobile service to deliver assistance to jobseekers in Geelong and regional Victoria.
As demand for our services continues to increase, our goal is to IMPACT 5000 job seekers each year by 2022, and to expand Ready Set's offering to include clothing, job search coaching, and an individualised connecting service.
Ready Set's services - clothing, coaching, and connecting - enable us to respond to the unique challenges and needs of each jobseeker, and ensure that jobseekers are not disadvantaged by the gaps that exist between social, charitable and other services.
Our clients come in as jobseekers and leave with the confidence to realise their dreams and change their own lives - and with it create a better future for their families and their communities. That's why we know that our job at Ready Set isn't to get people jobs; it's to give them the confidence to do that for themselves.
Ready Set is managed by Wear for Success, a registered charity. We were the first Victorian service to welcome clients of all genders, and in the past seven years we have dressed, styled and coached over 6000 unemployed Victorians from Melbourne, Geelong, and regional Victoria.
