Dandenong Ranges Open Studio Weekend


The 2014 Dandenong Ranges Open Studios will take place on May 3 and 4 and is an opportunity for art lovers to take a behind-the-scenes look into the life and work of the region's finest designers, painters, makers and sculptors.

People planning on visiting the open studios can download a guidebook complete with information on the weekend's events, participants, studio opening times and places to eat from the Dandenong Ranges Open Studios website www. openstudios.org.au

The 2014 program will see over 30 sculptors, painters and designers across the hills open their studios. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in workshops, classes and demonstrations and purchase pieces directly from the artists.

Great Train Race


The Great Train Race is one of the longest running 'Fun Runs' on the Australian running calendar.

The race isn't simply a race amongst the competitors..the exciting challenge is competing against the steam locomotive, Puffing Billy, over 13.2 kilometres through the hills and fern gullies of the picturesque Dandenong Ranges from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park.

The continual popularity and growth of this unique event of running against a steam train is what makes the Great Train Race an event not to be missed.

The Great Train Race is organised by Puffing Billy Railway volunteers and all proceeds go towards the maintenance of Puffing Billy's family of locomotives.

Free Comic Book Day



Free Comic Book Day is a day when comic book shops around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE* to anyone who comes into their stores.

Kalorama Chestnut Festival


This year's Kalorama Chestnut Festival will be held on Sunday May 4th at the Kalorama Reserve.

A fundraising event hosted by the Mt Dandenong Preschool, the Chestnut Festival has become a local institution and a much-loved family day out for not only the local community but visitors seeking a taste of Autumn in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges.

Each year, a new generation of local kinder families take the reigns, lovingly carrying on Chestnut Festival traditions whilst also introducing a hint of something new. This year, together with freshly roasted chestnuts you can also sample chestnut ice cream, chestnut soup, chestnut-chocolate cakes, poffertjes with chestnut cream and even chestnut beer! There are also plenty of gourmet food stalls, Devonshire tea, coffee and mulled wine to savour.

From 0 - 100, the Chestnut Festival is bursting with fun for kids of all ages. Older kids can enjoy the adventure space including camel rides, bungie trampolining, mini golf, scout climbing wall, wet sponge throwing and chestnut inspired games such as 'guess how many chestnuts', whilst for young kids there are loads of fairground rides and activities such as story time with the Chestnut Fairy, pony rides, train rides, flying swings, Jurassic jumping castle, a petting zoo and face painting. There will also be dozens of stalls showcasing locally made artisan handcraft and locally grown produce.
