This week a new event joins the fold with Melbourne's QV Square hosting the free inaugural Mosaic Festival, celebrating women from across many cultures. The National Trust presents the return of the Heritage Festival with tours, talks, open days and other special events, while in St Kilda there's the I Love Vegans Festival celebrating all things animal friendly.

For a grand day out with the kids, there's the Mulgrave Fun Day along with An April Affair in Canterbury. And for fans of old-school Aussie music, there's the opening of Record Store Day with a free performance from their official ambassador, Melbourne's very own real thing, Russell Morris.

Mosaic Festival Mosaic Festival, a free event held at Melbourne's QV Square, is a new festival that celebrates multicultural women in Victoria and shares their stories with the wider community. Traditional ceremonies, music, cooking demonstrations and a vibrant marketplace will be presented by cultural women's groups from across Victoria.
When: Sunday April 21 - 12pm to 4pm



Heritage Festival Heritage Festival, presented by the National Trust, offers a vibrant and diverse celebration of Australia's rich history. With this year's theme of Community Milestones, the festival program features talks, open-days, tours, exhibitions and other activities that explore the people, places and events that shaped our history.
When: April 18 to May 19



Mulgrave Fun Day Mulgrave Fun Day, held at Wellington Reserve, offers a day of entertainment for people of all ages with activities that include Bollywood Dancing and Zumba lessons, along with rides, market stalls, children's workshops and special guests such as Bongo the Cheeky Monkey, Tinkles the Funky Fairy and others.
When: Saturday April 20 - 11am to 3pm



An April Affair An April Affair, St Paul's Canterbury Church annual fair, offers entertainment for the family with attractions that include an Animal Farm, live music, face painting and an adventure trail for children. There'll also be market stalls and an Open Garden from John van de Linden, winner of 2008's Gardening Australia competition.
When: Saturday April 20 - 9:30am to 3:30pm



Mount Beauty Music Festival Mount Beauty Music Festival offers a great line-up with performers of blues, roots, rock, jazz, country and bush poetry. With guests that include the Moonee Valley Drifters, Benny Walker Band and Dash, the festival also features market stalls with local produce and wines from the North-East Alpine Valleys.

Record Store Day Ambassador Russell Morris Record Store Day Ambassador Russell Morris will be performing a showcase live at the main stage of Eastland Shopping Centre in Ringwood to mark the annual event where record stores across Australia come together with artists and record labels to that's held to celebrate the joy of music with the public.

Essendon Record & CD Fair Essendon Record & CD Fair, held at Essendon's Ukrainian House, brings together Melbourne's record collectors and interstate stallholders to offer over 70,000 Records, 10,000 CD's, cassettes, DVD's and magazines. There are also stalls with memorabilia from the past till now covering blues, rock, grunge and other genres.
When: Sunday April 21 - 9:30am to 5pm

I Love Vegans Festival I Love Vegans Festival, taking place in St Kilda, is a free family event held to promote love and compassion, animal rights and welfare and sustainable and healthy living. Celebrating vegan food, the festival also showcases fitness, film, animal friendly fashion, music and much more, while also raising funds for charities.
When: April 22 to 30



Pop Up Chinatown Treats Pop Up Chinatown Treats, held once a month, transforms Melbourne's Heffernan Lane into an enchanting strip that's complete with hawker-style stalls offering delicious Asian fare that includes noodles, rice, cakes, dumplings and much more along with souvenir stalls set amidst the ambience of Mirabella Lighting.

Melbourne 1956 - an Olympian Feast Melbourne 1956 - an Olympian Feast is a free talk at the State Library of Victoria, held as part of their exhibition that explores our culinary landscape. Gusto! curator Tracey Judd Iva and Robin Grow, President of the Art Deco and Modernism Society, will discuss the various chefs who visited in '56 and the influences they left behind.

How Sweet (and Important) it is...


More than Honey More than Honey, a documentary by Academy Award-nominated director Markus Imhoof, will be presented in a free screening at Federation Square's Big Screen. Exploring the importance of bees to the eco-system, the screening will be followed by discussions by founders of 'Melbourne City Rooftop Honey' and other guests.

One Elle of an Opera


Elle Elle, performed by Lyric Opera of Melbourne, is a powerful and engaging experience for performer and audiences alike. Built on the music of Francis Poulenc, the one-act production sung in English depicts a woman's downward emotional trajectory as her relationship comes to an end. It's held at Prahran's Chapel Off Chapel.
When: Wednesday to Sunday, April 17 to 21



Lifepaths Lifepaths, presented by the 3rd year ensemble of Verve Studios, comprises self-devised solo performances that offer a glimpse into their personal journeys. In researching the self, the four artists find four unique stories to tell, revealing moments of love, childhood joy and confusion. It's held at Melbourne's Nicholas Building.

Ten Months in a Cold Town Ten Months in a Cold Town, presented by SNAFU Theatre, is captivating, clever and just plain creepy. Featuring an original score, snappy dialogue and sensational performances in the unique venue of Abbotsford Convent, an undercover agent's mundane existence is upturned by the arrival of an unexpected visitor.

Unsung Heroes


Live & Unsigned Live & Unsigned presents more than just an open-mic night with a professional music competition featuring talented performers from around Melbourne competing for some huge prizes. Held at St Kilda bar Robarta, a laid-back cocktail bar, the live music is followed by DJ's playing old school RnB and Commercial House Music.

Cody Blackbird Cody Blackbird, performing at Augustine Hall in Hawthorn, is a traditional Native American Flutist who is Eastern Band Cherokee and Dakota. Recognised as one of the top Native American Flutists in the world today, blends his flute music and singing to weave a story of his life as an American Indian in the 21st century.

Of proceeds from every ticket sold at the gate on the day, $1 will be donated to help assist the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
