This week, with the ongoing Melbourne International Film Festival, there's also a chance to catch some free screenings in Richmond with its Town Hall transformed into a Pop-Up Cinema along with a side-order of fine dining.

Melbourne celebrates its crafty side with the return of Craft Cubed offering exhibitions and special events. Also catering to the buzz of creativity that makes Melbourne tick is the Container Festival, offering a great program of performances with a unique slant on its venues.

Craft Cubed Craft Cubed, presented by Craft Victoria, celebrates skilled and idea-based experimental craft and design with a great program that offers events that include Open Studio Days, seminars, workshops, exhibitions and much more at over 100 venues with highlights that include Craft Hatch market held at Melbourne's 1000 £ Bend.

Winter Shenanigans


Words in Winter Words in Winter, an annual event held in the Shire of Hepburn, presents a huge program of book launches, poetry readings, writing workshops, theatre, music, exhibitions and much more. With events held in Clunes, Daylesford and Creswick, the festival celebrates stories and ideas in all forms, shared by locals and visiting presenters.
When: August 2 to 24



Walhalla Vinter Ljusfest Walhalla Vinter Ljusfest presents a daily spectacular of light, moving imagery and sound that illuminates the historic township of Walhalla each evening, just two hours east of Melbourne. With this year's theme of "150 Years of Gold", the festival also features key events with train rides, feasts and a series of free concerts.

Contain Yourselves... Or Not


The Container Festival The Container Festival, presented by Monash Uni Student Theatre, is a bold new enterprise held in shipping containers set up as performance venues. Showcasing ground-breaking works, the program features music, dance, theatre, visual art, games, burlesque, interactive performances, poetry, puppetry, talks, exhibitions and more.

Melbourne International Film Festival Melbourne International Film Festival celebrates 62 years as one of Australia's key cinema events and also one of the world's oldest film festivals. Held at various venues, the program features films from across the globe, special guests, Q&A screenings and much more with documentaries, short films and much more.

Free Cinema in Richmond


Here We Grow - Pop Up Cinema Here We Grow - Pop Up Cinema celebrates Richmond's Bridge Road and its delicious 'foodie' culture by serving up some delicious 'wine and dine' offers for local restaurants and also presenting three great films with free screenings held at Richmond Town Hall, which will be transformed into a Pop Up Cinema for Friday evenings in August.

Taste of Tassie


Tasmania Unbottled 2013 Tasmania Unbottled 2013, held at Zinc at Federation Square, presents outstanding Tasmanian wines at Australia's largest showcase of Tasmanian wine and produce. Offering a showcase of more than 175 of the island's wines, many rarely seen outside Tasmania, there will also be cheese, seafood, cider and touring attractions.
