This week, the National Gallery of Victoria is serving up a great program of events to celebrate NAIDOC Week.

The Northern Exposure Visual Arts Festival brings a splash of colour and then some to Melbourne's North East, while deep in the heart of the CBD there's a call-out to the young and young at heart with Wintervalk inviting the public to dress-up for a free parade and picnic.

3D Printing Workshop at Southbank Library 3D Printing Workshop at Southbank Library, presented by The Robots Are Coming, is an introductory workshop that requires no advanced computer skills or experience with 3D printing. Teaching how you can take any imaginative idea and make it real, the workshop also reveals where this exciting new technology is headed.

Wintervalk: The Fantasy Parade and Picnic Wintervalk: The Fantasy Parade and Picnic is a free event that invites people of all ages to dress up and participate in a grand public procession of fantasy folk and mythical creatures. With the gathering beginning in Treasury Gardens, the parade to Fitzroy Gardens will end in a wonderful winter picnic.

NGV Celebrates Naidoc Week


NAIDOC Week Celebrations NAIDOC Week Celebrations at the NGV presents a vibrant program of special events to commemorate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. With guests that include renowned artist Treahna Hamm, there'll be artist demonstrations, floor talks, guided tours, film screenings and more.

Impressions of Australia


African Arts African Arts, held at Melbourne's Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery, is a unique solo exhibition by Nickel Mundabi Ngadwa. A vast and diverse collection of works created in Congo and Australia with a distinctly African texture, Ngadwa's series of paintings and sculptures capture the essence of Congolese design with a contemporary flair.
When: July 11 to 31 - Closed Sundays

My Backyard My Backyard is a solo show by Carole Foster, an artist who over the last 35 years has had numerous solo and group exhibitions, both nationally and abroad. With works that explore our visual relationship with the Australian landscape, the exhibition is held at Malvern's Manyung Gallery, one of Victoria's oldest contemporary art spaces.

Best & Brightest Competing


Asia-Pacific Chamber Music Competition Asia-Pacific Chamber Music Competition, a prestigious event held once every four years, attracts the finest young classical ensembles from the region to compete for coveted prizes and concert engagements. Public recitals will be held at Iwaki Auditorium ahead of the finals, which will be taking place at Melbourne Recital Centre.

Young Stars on Stage


Bravehearts 2.0 Twelfth Night Bravehearts 2.0 Twelfth Night features young actors who will showcase their talents in Shakespeare's beloved romantic comedy. Presented by The Australian Shakespeare Company, many graduates of their Bravehearts program go on to work professionally with them. This year's production is held at Williamstown's On Q Performing Arts Centre.

Standard Double Standard Double is a unique performance in an actual suite at The Blackman Hotel. Showcasing two of Melbourne's most loved character comedians, they bring a hotel full of guests and staff to life with audiences invited to be a fly on the wall for this very special comedy about people misbehaving when they are away from home.

STREAT Beats


Thomas Dylan Thomas Dylan will celebrate the launch of his first ever EP with a performance at Northcote's Wesley Anne. Recorded half in a studio, half in a friend's home, his album is a musical journey of life, love and everything else. Joined by guests Meeko and Bryce Bronstein, the night will also support the social enterprise, STREAT.

Winter Warmers Winter Warmers, a series of free concerts presented at St Kilda's Acland Court Shopping Centre, will showcase diverse tunes every Sunday throughout July to warm local residents in need of a break from the cold this winter. From jazz to classical to blues, the concerts give local musicians a chance to showcase their talents.

Dolls on Display


Miniatures & Dollhouse Fair & Exhibition Miniatures & Dollhouse Fair & Exhibition, taking place at Mount Waverley's Community Centre, is the annual exhibition and trading show by the Victorian Association of Miniature Enthusiasts, where clubs and individual members will present stunning displays of miniatures with figurines, dollhouses, furniture and more.

Build & Renovating Expo Build & Renovating Expo, formerly the Building & Home Improvement Expo, offers three days of demonstrations and seminars along with displays of the latest innovations for homebuilders and renovators. Held at Melbourne Exhibition & Convention Centre, the expo is also a chance to meet existing and new industry suppliers.

In Honour of Mr Football


EJ Whitten Legends Game EJ Whitten Legends Game, now celebrating its 18th year, brings together an honour roll of over 50 recently retired AFL superstars including Brendan Fevola, Matthew Lloyd, Mark McVeigh and Scotty West in the annual match at Marvel Stadium, which honours Mr Football, Teddy Whitten and also supports prostate cancer research.
