Newsletter | #304 | What's On this Week

Welcome to this week's Melbourne events, exhibitions, sports and community guide for Tuesday to Monday, October 30 to November 5, 2012.

This week... Wangaratta Jazz Festival and Maldon Folk Festival are just two of several events to be found further afield, doing their best to tempt you out from under your urban rock and make good on one of our most popular public holidays.

Yes, the long weekend is upon us as Melbourne Cup Carnival returns with its race that stops a nation and invokes more absenteeism than the unions. Also in line with the spirit of betting, the weather finally seems to be offering better odds, much to the chagrin of this particular Ranga.

Those seeking some respite from the baking UV rays might want to visit The Village Festival in Fitzroy where you'll find no end of tents and marquees offering shade and artsy shenanigans.

I know I'll be needing some recuperation come the weekend. With Halloween also in the cards this week, it's becoming abundantly clear why our fair sunburnt country might not quite be on board with such costumed capers.

If Wednesday's as hot as today's been, my partner and I are going to have a very grumpy, heat-struck little werewolf on our zombie hands. Basically, Halloween will be like any other day with the little ghoul, it'll just happen to be hot and as usual he'll be wanting lollies.
