Wheat Restaurant and Bar's look is undeniably stylish.

With a shiny, polished concrete floor flecked with black stone and muted olives, an island bar fronted in rough-stacked sandstone dominates the space. The banquettes are around the back, and wooden tables and chairs in the front.

But it's the pendant light shades that have the most impact. At the back, they look like bulbous white and black sea urchins made out of chiseled tongues of balsa wood. In the front, fronds of the soft wood spikes dangle like sandy jellyfish that have swallowed 60-watt globes.

Housed in the former Wheat Board building, Wheat is a Monday to Friday restaurant with dinner served on Friday night only. The menu is split between lighter lunch - type dishes, such as sliced chicken breast salad or lemon pepper calamari, and a short selection of serious mains, perhaps veal medallions with asparagus risotto and fetta stuffed zucchini flowers, or one of our generous entrée- priced pastas like tortellini stuffed with duck and mushroom with burnt sage butter sauce.

The breakfast menu ranges from the sensible fruit salad or oats to the utterly indulgent pancakes with berries or eggs and bacon with all the sides.
