Whittlesea Agricultural Society
The mother of Agricultural Societies, the Port Phillip Farmers' Society was founded in 1848, consisting of the parent body (later the National Agricultural Society) and finally the Royal Agricultural Society and three branches - Mornington, Bacchus Marsh and Gisborne.
Founded in 1859, the Whittlesea Agricultural Society strives to promote agriculture and assist our local agricultural businesses and farmers. Our annual Whittlesea Show is a showcase for agricultural pursuits, past, present and future.
From humble beginnings in the local pub in 1859 where two local farmers met and roped the publican in to chair a meeting and plan for the first Whittlesea Fair, the Society has grown to the staging of an annual two day Show which sees crowds of over 50,000.
The Whittlesea Show has grown to become one of the premier Agricultural events in Victoria.
Fourth and fifth generation family's members are still involved to this very day and volunteering and commitment have been the keys to its success.
