The World Press Photo Exhibition returns in 2026 with a collection of images capturing events and experiences that have shaped lives around the globe.

Drawn from the annual World Press Photo Contest, the exhibition brings together work by professional photographers and photojournalists documenting major news events alongside quieter stories that can struggle to command international attention.

Rather than concentrating solely on headline-making moments, World Press Photo has increasingly placed emphasis on geographic diversity and a broader range of perspectives. Its regional contest model considers entries across Africa; Asia-Pacific and Oceania; Europe; North and Central America; South America; and West, Central and South Asia.

The resulting exhibition offers a wide-ranging snapshot of contemporary photojournalism, spanning subjects including war and displacement, environmental change, social and political upheaval, communities and personal lives.

Photography with a journalistic purpose

Founded in Amsterdam in 1955, World Press Photo has grown from a Dutch photographers' initiative into an internationally recognised platform for visual journalism.
