Hotel Pro Forma OPERATION: ORFEO

OPERATION:ORFEO - A Visual Opera in Three Movements

Presented by Arts Centre Melbourne and Arts Projects Australia, this celebrated production by Danish company Hotel Pro Forma invites audiences into a world where voices, bodies and light create unforgettable stage images.

Inspired by the ancient myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, OPERATION:ORFEO moves beyond conventional storytelling. A sequence of striking visual compositions unfolds to symphonic voices, creating an experience that is as much moving visual art as opera.

Featuring members of the Latvian Radio Choir, conductor Sigvards Klava, solo singer Baiba Renerte and solo dancer Lisbeth Sonne Andersen, the production brings together choral music and precisely composed movement.

Director Marie Dahl preserves the original concept and direction of Hotel Pro Forma founder Kirsten Dehlholm (1945–2024). First seen here at the 1997 Melbourne International Arts Festival, the work returns to the same stage three decades later, offering a new generation the chance to experience one of Danish theatre’s most internationally celebrated productions.
