The Australian Ballet: Cinderella

Cinderella

The Australian Ballet presents
Cinderella
The ultimate fairytale

For the first time in almost 50 years, Sir Frederick Ashton's Cinderella returns to The Australian Ballet, bringing romance, humour and fairytale magic to audiences of all ages.

Based on Charles Perrault's much-loved story, the ballet follows a kind young woman who rises above the cruelty of her stepsisters to discover a brighter future. Ashton's choreography brings the familiar tale to life through expressive characters, exquisite dancing and tender moments between Cinderella and her prince.

This major revival pairs new storybook sets by Richard Roberts with Kristian Fredrikson's glittering costumes, lovingly recreated from the original designs. Updated production elements give the staging fresh life while preserving the artistry of the original.

Sergei Prokofiev's evocative score accompanies intricate ensemble patterns, beautiful solo variations and intimate pas de deux. From its humble beginnings to its magical transformation, Cinderella offers the pleasures of a classic story told through ballet.
